Standing Up

We often associated bowing down with worshipping, so how can people be worshiping God when they are standing up? When Meshach, Shadrach, and Abed-Nego stood up, they were not worshipping Nebuchadnezzar, they were worshipping the one true God. We often
associating standing up with rebellion and in a sense, that is what the three men were doing…rebelling -  rebelling against a demand that was
in direct opposition to their faith. Standing up certainly draws attention, and it forces the one who is standing to pay attention to the things that
are really worth standing up for.

Over the weekend many people stood up at the 8/28 rally in Washington, DC. Some might say they were standing up for or standing up with
one man. We can not specifically state why people went to Washington, DC to stand at the feet of the Lincoln Memorial but stand they did.
It seems they stood up in order to restore honor, the honor of a nation and to draw attention to the need for the restoration of individual honor, honor that comes from living by the values of faith, hope, and love…biblical values. The “standing” has brought the name of God to the front
pages of newspapers, well, okay certain newspapers, to the air waves of radio, well, okay certain radio shows, and to the individuals in that
large crowd of people. The name of God, the values of God are being stood up for.

It takes effort to stand. Feet get tired; legs grow weary. There’s little glory in it. When you stand up at work and speak the truth concerning your pro-life views, it isn’t always comfortable. When you are shunned for your biblical lifestyle, left behind when others are socializing, it isn’t comfortable. When you stand up for the right to pray, to worship, to be able to speak the Word of God, it isn’t always comfortable. You can, however, take comfort in your discomfort. Probably Meshach, Shadrach, and Abed-Nego weren’t feeling very comfortable standing up on that plain. However, standing up was the right thing to do; standing up was the worshipful thing to do. Standing up brought glory to God; and all these years later, we, the readers of the Scripture, are once again confronted with the challenge to stand up, stand up and worship God in
action and in truth.

God bless!

At Hope we fully recognize the importance of the Law of God. But we also know that old Law has been superseded by a new one: Jesus.
He no longer requires external behaviors as a sign of spirituality. He longs for and offers a transforming liberation of the hearts of man.
Come join us as we grow in His grace, mercy, and forgiveness. Find out what real freedom can mean to you.
